Wood options:

Standard woods are American Black Walnut or Cherry.  For an additional charge we can build desks in Maple, Oak, Mahogany, or a wide range of exotic woods.  We can also provide a range or reclaimed antique wood including pumpkin pine (shown), hickory, or other woods claimed from homes, farms and businesses in the Northeastern United States.

Custom cabinet sizes:

Cabinets are sized to your room and equipment needs.  We can help you whether you have a lot of space, or just a little.  We balance ergonomics, functionality, and the beauty of the wood in your desk.

Special configurations:

We work with you to custom design your desk for your particular application.  We understand the need for rack mount space, surge protected and filtered power, etc.  We we listen, design, and deliver exactly what you want.

Finish choices:

We offer Cherry and Oak as standard woods, and Maple and American Black Walnut as premium woods at a slightly higher price. These are generally available in our local area in Eastern Pennsylvania. We work with local arborists who remove trees downed in storms and trees that need to be removed at the owners request. All our wood is aged for a year, and then kiln dried to prevent warping. We often get asked what the “best” wood is. There is no good answer to that.

These woods are great, but any good hardwood is a potential candidate for your cabinet. If you prefer Mahogany, Flame Maple, or other exotics, or vintage woods, we are happy to work with you. We also have a stash of wood that is the prettiest (in our opinion) that we get. We usually hold this wood for custom cabinets or special editions. We recommend natural finishes. If you want a dark cabinet, we recommend American Black Walnut. If you want a medium color wood, Cherry is beautiful, and for light cabinets, natural Maple is a wonderful light colored wood. These woods will change over the years. Walnut tends to lighten, Cherry tends to darken, and Maple will darken a bit as well. We think the patina of a beautifully aged cabinet is like the patina on a vintage guitar…there is nothing prettier. We will stain your piece if you want, and will do our best to match the samples we send you, but stains react differently based on the tree and grain, so it’s difficult to know exactly how your piece will look when stained. Every tree is unique! We are happy to send out finish samples. We make these in the shop using our finish materials. However, keep in mind every tree is different, so the samples only give an approximation of what the wood on your cabinet will look like. We hand select our wood. Let us know if there is something special you’re looking for.
