Following AMF’s tenth anniversary and the release of our new Modular Habitat Collection, 2023 brought an exciting collaboration between AMF and principal designer Molly Torres Portnof of DATE Interiors. Molly, a Brooklyn-based interior designer, and her husband Harry, owner of Greenway Records, moved from Brooklyn to Long Island after purchasing her childhood home from her parents. In doing so, they embarked on a journey to make the familial residence a harmonious blend of personal history, musical passion, and modern design. Upon completion, the home was photographed by Kristen Francis and featured in RUE Magazine’s Winter 2023 issue accompanied by an interview with Molly outlining her design process, available on newsstands now.

One of the standout features of the project was the integration of guitars throughout the home’s decor. No longer confined to a designated music room, the instruments became dynamic elements blended into the design of each room. Furthermore, Molly’s meticulous approach to placement transformed the guitar collection into art, celebrating not only their musical function but also their aesthetic appeal.

Each guitar, beautifully wall mounted on Hyla Guitar Hangers in a variety of American hardwoods, now serves as an eye-catching representation of storage and accessibility that displays each instrument as a piece of art. This is partly due to each Hyla’s hand-selected hardwood base & brass finial caps, and leather-wrapped posts, providing a luxurious and safe suspension for each instrument. Moreover, in the dedicated music & listening room, a solid maple Olin Guitar Stand provides an elegant and accessible floor display of additional guitars accented by the walnut Hyla Guitar Hangers. This dedicated creative space also includes amplifiers and a collection of vintage gear and audio equipment for spinning records, and jamming whenever inspired.

Beyond its visual allure, Molly & Harry’s new residence emphasizes that homes aren’t merely aesthetically pleasing spaces; they can also serve as an environment for inspiring creativity beyond the confines of the music room. The result is a home that not only represents high design but also encapsulates the creativity of both her and her husband.

In conclusion, the collaboration between AMF and DATE Interiors in their new home exemplifies the potential of utilizing thoughtfully designed hardware within a dedicated room music room or integrating instruments that transform them into art and elevate the overall room’s aesthetic. The incorporation of guitars as artistic features throughout their Long Island home serves as an inspiration for designers & musicians alike to infuse their living spaces with music and creativity.
